Misha

Formally known as Snowsapphire Ice Diamond of Zhivoi by the UK Kennel Club and most of her fellow competitors.
Known by family, neighbours, friends, and passersby as Misha, Yooo-ouuu (when naughty), Me-me, little Tyklette, or Puppette.  There are many others, but this covers the gist!
Misha is the result of a mating by CH Roybridge Ruff Diamond, JW, Sh Cm and Snowsapphire of Sarbesha, JW.  She was born along with four sisters and one brother on the 16 October 2005, bred by Mrs Sheila Grainger of Snowsapphire.

It was such an exciting time for us; being in on the litter right from the start – before mating even took place.

If we go back to April of 2005, Mark and I had said our good-byes to Bear and sent him to Rainbow Bridge to be with Sasha.  It didn’t take us long to realize we needed to have another Samoyed.  We felt lost not having a little bossy boots telling us what to do, or making us laugh.  The gentle taps on the foot or leg for fuss, the bright eyes and the happy smile were missing.
We had a couple leads on people who were breeding from their pets, however the matings never caught.   In July, a friend from a message board gave me the website address of two breeders who were in our area and I set out to ring them.
After a conversation it was suggested that we come to see the prospective dam and some of her relatives at breed club show in a week’s time.

The day dawned and I was so excited.  Excitement turned in to utter joy when we pulled into the parking lot and I saw no less than thirty shining, no, glowing Samoyeds!  I didn’t know where to look, each one was more beautiful than the next.
We found the breeder and set about getting to know Sasha, her father Skotia, and half brother Stirling.
I was in love!  They were a very different type to my American Samoyeds, smaller, and more teddy bear like in face.  But…they were amazing.  Calm, friendly, indeed, as they should be, everything we wanted.
We spent a very enjoyable day, and gave a definite “Yes! we would love one of Sasha’s pups!”

So, we waited from the end of July to October; waiting for the mating, confirmation of pregnancy, and the birth.
From the first few hours we were in possession of photos of the litter.  The photos would arrive in my inbox during the wee small hours of the morning and I would open them with such anticipation.  It was amazing to be a part of it, knowing that one of those precious babies would be ours in about eight weeks.

At about three or four weeks of age we were able to go see the litter in person.  I tell you, Samoyed pups could melt the heart of a snowman!  They are so sweet, so cuddly, soft, and warm.  Snow white with little lumps of coal for a nose, and beautiful white lashes on dark pigmented eyes, as if they were rimmed with eyeliner!  The mouths - perfectly black all around.  And the teeth – very, very sharp!

It was extremely hard for us to tear ourselves away.  But we brought lots of photos home to sustain us!

At six weeks we went back to make our choice.  Now that was the exciting part!  But it was so difficult to do.  How do you look at four little faces and choose only one?  In the end we let Misha choose us.  Bear and Sasha must have whispered to her that she would have a wonderful home if she decided to come with us.

Another week and a half passed before we brought Misha home.  That was the slowest part of the whole experience!

On December 8, eight months to the day Bear went to Rainbow Bridge, Misha came home.  This was the beginning of what we call our Misha Adventure.

Misha has not disappointed, in fact she has surpassed every hope we had.  She is beautiful, a stunner in our eyes.  Her personality is a constant source of much  amusement.  She embodies the Samoyed spirit.  She has quirks that make her unique, but we swear she channels Sasha and Bear at times!  ;P
Her temperament is fabulous.  She is calm, accepting, and spirited.  She has a little hint of the devil in her, and she tests the boundaries often.  But Misha accepts correction with grace – as long as it is done in a kind manner.
She is empathic, instinctive and above all loving.  She is our jewel.  She is Misha.
